4 key winter trends for your kitchen and bathroom

Winter is the time of year that we hunker down in our homes, shut the blinds, and enjoy the warmth and comfort it provides. Despite the temptation to sit back and relax, the world of interior design certainly doesn’t hibernate during these colder months. In fact, this season brings a number of new and exciting trends in bathroom and kitchen design, so we’ve picked out some of our favourites to give you some great inspiration when it comes to updating your home.

Here are our four key trends in bathroom and kitchen interiors this winter:

Masculine decor

With the rise of the metrosexual, inspired by figures such as David Beckham, the bathroom and kitchen have taken on a whole new meaning for men around the world. What was traditionally a female-dominated space, is now seeing a major shift towards more masculine features and furnishings.

One of the major trends this winter sees patterns and colours more associated with men’s suits make an appearance in kitchens and bathrooms. Tartan and chevrons are starting to make in-roads into interiors, along with simple rectangular designs featuring charcoal grey and dark brown.

You can easily apply this masculine style to your windows, by choosing a dark grey venetian blind or one in hammered black.

Wood-effect materials

Whilst wood-effect tiles and materials have been around for a number of years, new high definition printing techniques are allowing for more varied and intriguing grain effects. This has seen an increase in their use, making it a key trend this winter.

This faux natural style is not just confined to the floor either. Gorgeous wood-effect tiles, from darker to lighter tones, can be used to create backsplashes and wall designs.

This style can also be carried into the design of your venetian blind. With a range of wood-effect finishes available, from rustic oak to English pine, you can really go to town with this naturally-inspired trend.

Blocks of colour

By adding blocks of colours to localised and specific areas of your décor, you can create a highly personalised design. This can be limited to a feature wall, in one shade of colour, or can be extended to floors, by using a mix of similar colours. Floor tiles or mosaics in varying shades of grey are a great example of this type of style.

Why not colour block the wall that surrounds your window? Add a single tile or wallpaper colour and complement with a single coloured venetian blind. With matching top and bottom rails, the overall effect will look simply stunning.

Earthy tones

Terracotta and chalky neutrals are just some of the colours that are proving very popular this winter, helping to create a warm, inviting look, whilst maintaining a real earthy charm.

This trend follows on from the use of recycled ceramics and sustainable materials to achieve a natural, weathered style in your kitchen or bathroom.

When seeking out window coverings to complement this style, choose blinds with neutral shades such as Cameo or Light Weft.
